My main reason to have listened to this book is that it is narrated by the wonderful Michelle Babb, and I am glad I did, since otherwise I would have missed a great story. The war between the girls and the boys was quite funny, even though the pranks were the typical ones seen in other books or movies. The mystery part takes some time to start, but I don’t think we can say the book starts slow, as the authors take the needed time to present each character and the group dynamics. This is not the case, since the characters are much too young for that, and I have to say that I found it quite refreshing. I really like cozy mysteries, but something that bothers me sometimes is the fact that they need to include romance. It was easy to connect to them, share their fears and be glad at their successes. The four girls are richly described and each one has a distinctive personality. This seems to be a case for the Ragamuffing sisters! Despite the fact that this book seems to be written for pre-teens, I throughly enjoyed it.

Among the pranks to each other, one of the town inhabitants dies at the ravine where there seems to be a toxic substance of unknown origin. The Ragamuffin sisters are four friends, outcasts, that are in an eternal war with a group of boys whom they call the Thick Heads.

I received a free copy of this audiobook, and am reviewing it voluntarily. All the kids grow and learn, without any heavy-handed 'lessons.' As always, Michelle Babb does a great job of giving life to the story and individuality to the characters.

It's a lot of fun, with twists, turns, and frights along the way.

The two gangs unhappily decide they have to work together to save the town. What's going on? It turns out the boys have their own questions about what happened, especially when it begins to appear events in the ravine are tied to the factory where Jane's father, Dakota's stepfather, and head Thickhead Jimmy's father all work. There's also a remarkably stinky, sticky substance in the ravine, along with a surprising number of dead animals. Whistler, a bookstore owner who has shared books with Elle, but who is otherwise a bit of a mystery to the girls. Things keep ramping up, from pranks on each other to attacks on each other's clubhouses, until one night the girls paint the boys' treehouse pink, hear strange noises in the ravine-and the next day, a dead body is found. They're engaged in an ongoing war with the four boys they call the Thickheads. Jane, Dakota, Sketti, and Elle are the Ragamuffin Sisters, a group of four misfit girls each with their own kinds of creative genius. If you have a middle schooler in your life grab this book and give it a listen yourself. Overall it was a very pleasant listen that I would not usually have found for myself. The narrator did a great job presenting the story in a way that let me get lost in what was going on, not concentrating on extravagant voice changes for characters other quirks I've heard from others. Add on top of a good read some fantastic narration and you have an easy win. Oh yeah and underlaying the good writing and character development is a good mystery, but I'll leave that for you to discover. This was not so much a coming of age story as a celebration of a slice of time that brought back memories of endless summers in tree forts and friends. I enjoyed the fact that the boy/girl barriers were simi broken down as I remember being that kid caught between the two distinct worlds of seemingly opposing sides. I instantly fell in love with the little spitfire sisters but then the addition of the boys really fleshed out the main characters. The characters were well rounded and human. I pre read this for my niece and was pleasantly surprised.
